An avalanche occurred around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 10th at the Palisades Tahoe ski resort in Olympic Valley, California. The Placer County Sheriff’s Office identified the man killed as 66-year-old Kenneth Kidd of Point Reyes and Truckee-Tahoe. A woman who was caught in the avalanche said she fell about 200 feet and was buried before being rescued by a stranger.

Over 100 personnel from Palisades Tahoe helped search for the two people reported buried in the avalanche. The resort’s mountain operations team had tweeted earlier that day that the KT-22 terrain was on patrol hold. Palisades Tahoe said the resort would reopen on January 11th but the KT-22 terrain would remain closed.
